"I laughed. I cried. I felt I was in that living room," said Irving, who at the time of her treatment met no other young-adult cancer survivors or patients.
The 43-minute film focuses on six cancer patients and survivors between 19 and 29, who, according to the promotional material are "living life while fighting for it."
Their conversation touches on anger, finances, sexuality, infertility, family, death, faith and the future. Their stories provide both information and inspiration -- not just for young adults facing life-threatening illness, but families, friends, caregivers and medical teams.
The documentary is directed and co-produced by Pat Taylor, whose daughter Sara Taylor Gibson hosted the roundtable of young adults facing cancer. When her daughter died, Taylor finished her film.
A panel discussion follows tonight's showing of Chasing Rainbows at the Vancouver Island Cancer Centre. Panelists include Taylor, Irving, and Mary McBride, a researcher with the B.C. Cancer Agency.
